Twitter Blackouts
One of the eNewsletters that I subscribe to, Channel Security, published this interesting look back at some of the bigger twitter attacks. I must have missed several of these, as some did not look familiar at all. It was a good reminder that you need to think before you click.
In my opinion, Twitter is the electronic answer to “what’s up.” In a matter of seconds (like 3) you can update customers, invite feedback, post issues, or ask questions. I have a bit of love-hate relationship with it. I like to follow, but I don’t necessarily like to tweet (anyone that knows me will say that I am not short on words – I find it very difficult to keep my messages to 140 characters).
But I do Tweet, and I do watch the conversations from my favorite “peeps”. I can see the opportunities that exist, but also the challenges. The ability to reach out to customers (and prospects) and converse with them seems to outweigh the challenges to me. For many B2B companies the main challenge is “what will we say and who will keep the conversation alive”.
Of course, some “danger” does exist. As with other online media, you have to stay on your toes. With all the buzz, it’s not surprising that hackers are starting to pay as much attention to Twitter and targeting it with malicious activity. It pays to be on guard for suspicious tweets as well emails.
